Different speed reading techniques

There are many speed reading techniques that will significantly enhance your reading speed. Our educational system teaches people to read the way young kids read, which is reading word by word. Try observing your eye movement when you are reading. You will notice that you are reading one word or one small block of words at a time. Then you move on to the next block of words after we are done with the previous one. Sometimes you have to go back to the previous block of words when you feel like you haven't fully understood the text. An unskilled reader will read one word at a time or a smaller block of words than others. One of the proven to improve your reading skills is to increasing the number of words in each block your eyes see.

One way to do this is placing the reading material further from your eyes to make more words fit into your eye block. Another way is reducing the time spent on reading each block. Also, try using a pointer such as a pen or a finger, and move your eyes at the same speed as you are moving your pointer. This helps to reduce the frequency of going back to the previous block.

All these basic techniques require a lot of time and practice. You will only see a definite increase in speed after steady exercises.
